SwiftBL Service

SwiftBL is a service that provides IRC administrators with an easy way to prevent malicious clients (open proxies/drones) from connecting and causing damage to their network. To do this we maintain a database of potentially abusive hostnames which are served via a DNS zone (dnsbl.swiftbl.net). Although the database is primarily aimed at IRC-related instances there is no reason why it can not be used in conjunction with other protocols (such as email).

In order to ensure our database is constantly up to date and as accurate as possible we employ several different methods for the addition of new hosts. These include (but are not limited to):

- Hosts scanned by our own custom proxy scanners.
- Hosts used to coordinate attacks against both our own network and other networks.
- Manually added entries which are known to be proxies.

If you have been directed to this website as your host is listed in our database please visit the Lookup & Removal page to attempt removal of your host. This process is usually instant, however in certain circumstances you may need to wait for manual verification and removal. Please note that we are not responsible for any denial of service that you encounter as a result of an organisation using our services. You should also note that it may take up to several hours for you to be able to access any services previously blocked after removal from the blacklist. (Please consult whoever has placed any restriction on you for further information).

26th October 2008 - Brief downtime

Due to maintenance on one of our main servers we experienced a brief period of downtime. Full service has now been restored, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.

22nd October 2008 - Database refresh & updates

The blacklist database has been purged of old/inactive entries to maintain our high level of accuracy. We have also begun the process of moving our main DNS server to another machine - no users should be affected as the old server will remain running whilst everything propagates. Finally, some changes will be made to this website over the next few weeks, including the creation of the database statistics page.

12th May 2008 - Changes/Updates

Following on from our recent name change (and server change) from Anoxs DNSBL we have (once again) re-designed the website. We've also taken this opportunity to update some of the content on the website and hopefully make it easier for those who are listed in the database to be able to remove themselves. We're still considering our options regarding the implementation of a service allowing users to submit their proxy reports (ie. using BOPM's dnsbl_to function) directly into our database, but if such a service was to be introduced it wouldn't be until after the summer.
